Notes on walking

In the series notes on walking, I explore a kind of doubleness of experience—the idea of being in the ‘wrong’ place and/or the ‘right’ place. I investigate our contradictory desires to both be vulnerable explorers of the unknown and to be seekers of belonging. For example, I map various places through a repetitive process of capturing an image every ten steps using a remote shutter release and the creation of disorienting video segments as I wander through forests while tracking my meanderings with GPS. Through the use of various imagery and media, in conjunction with the GPS data tracking, layered on top of each other, an interactive map is created, becoming more and more complex the further I walk, the larger area of the earth I cover, and the more places I wander through.
